World’s Largest Crypto Exchange Binance Hits Hurdle in Europe: Services Being Restricted

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has announced that it will restrict some of its services in the region because it failed to obtain the necessary license in time under the European Union’s new crypto asset regulation, MiCA.

The giant of the cryptocurrency world, Binance, has faced a significant legal hurdle in the European Union (EU) market. Since the company has not yet obtained the license to comply with the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which will come into effect on July 1, it has started sending service restriction messages to its users. This development has led to a mandatory change in the exchange’s operational strategy in Europe.

Emails sent by the exchange to users stated that new registrations would no longer be accepted and existing services would be limited. This situation, particularly affecting users in countries such as France, Italy, Poland, and Spain, is seen as a result of the strict rules introduced by MiCA. Binance officials attempted to reassure the community by emphasizing that user assets are safe and will always remain accessible.

Binance’s Europe Strategy and MiCA Licensing Process

The company recently announced that it had withdrawn its license application in Greece. However, this does not mean that Binance will completely withdraw from Europe. In a strategic move, the exchange has shifted its focus to France and aims to provide full-capacity service again in all 27 member states by obtaining its MiCA license in the coming months.

This new regulation, which will be valid in all member states where the European Union flag flies, requires unlicensed firms to cease their operations. Binance stated that its goals in Europe have not changed and that it continues its efforts to complete the legal compliance process. Platforms that fail to receive approval from at least one member state by June 30 will be forced to gradually terminate their operations in the region.
