Cardano Investors Alert: Popular Wallet Faces Security Crisis with $20 Million at Risk
Cardano-based wallet provider SecondFi has announced that approximately $2.4 million worth of ADA was stolen from 374 user wallets due to a security vulnerability in its software.
Popular Cardano wallet SecondFi, formerly known as Yoroi, announced that it has patched a major security breach on the platform. While approximately 16 million ADA was stolen across three separate attack waves, the team stated that the situation stemmed from a bug in the wallet creation software. Because the vulnerability existed directly at the address level, even users migrating their seed phrases to another wallet did not gain full protection.
The SecondFi team emphasized that the risk was triggered whenever an affected user approved any transaction. Before attackers could reach more assets, emergency measures were deployed, transferring 129 million ADA to an independent custodian. The platform, targeted by cyberattackers lurking behind screens in dark rooms, has begun working with an external accounting firm to verify the losses.
Millions of Dollars Lost in Cardano Wallet Attack
Blockchain security firm SlowMist estimates that the total loss could exceed $20 million once all wallets and tokens are accounted for. Although this figure has not yet been verified by an independent audit, a claims process has been initiated for affected users. The company reported that it has updated its systems to ensure user security and established a protective shield for the remaining assets.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson stated that while the incident is unfortunate, the stolen amount remains modest compared to other major crypto attacks. Hoskinson reminded that the crypto world has such painful realities and that every loss deeply impacts investors. Amidst these developments, the price of ADA continues to trade around $0.15, its lowest level since 2020.
