Money Laundering Shock in Project That Transferred $75 Million to Trump Family: $100 Million Investment Under Investigation
The fact that businessman Guren “Bobby” Zhou, who invested $100 million in the World Liberty Financial project, is under a money laundering investigation has sparked major controversy due to the $75 million share transferred to the Trump family.
Although World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a cryptocurrency project linked to Donald Trump and his family, has recently made headlines with a massive investment, serious questions have arisen regarding the source of these funds. It has emerged that Guren “Bobby” Zhou, the figure behind the company Aqua 1—which invested $100 million in the project’s governance tokens—is at the center of an active money laundering investigation in the UK.
According to information shared by the New York Times, Zhou was arrested in the UK in 2021, and the investigation against him is still ongoing as of July 2026. Although no formal charges have been filed yet, Zhou’s past failed ventures and false partnership claims in the Caduceus project undermine the credibility of the investment. In particular, the uncertainty surrounding the source of the $100 million highlights weaknesses in the project’s vetting processes and potential legal risks.
Millions of Dollars Transferred to the Trump Family
The most striking point of this massive investment was where the money went. Under the revenue-sharing agreement made with World Liberty Financial, $75 million of the revenue from this sale was transferred directly to a company controlled by Trump and his sons. Trump’s recent financial disclosures also confirm that a total of $236.25 million in revenue was generated from the project’s pre-sale processes.
Although company spokesperson David Wachsman argued that they comply with all legal regulations and run a compliance program that exceeds industry standards, he did not provide clear information about Zhou’s source of funds. The White House, meanwhile, claims that Trump has no conflict of interest. However, the project—which symbolizes freedom with the eagle figure in its logo—being associated with such serious allegations has resonated widely in the crypto world.
