ADA is the native crypto asset of the Cardano network. Cardano is a proof-of-stake blockchain network that provides infrastructure for payments, native tokens, and smart contracts. ADA plays a role in staking participation, transaction fees, and network governance. An application or another token bearing the name Cardano does not carry the same economic rights and risks as ADA.

Cardano’s Transaction Model

Cardano uses a transaction model called extended UTXO. UTXO stands for unspent transaction output. Transactions consume existing outputs and produce new ones; the extended model allows for more complex applications with contract data and validation rules. This structure is different from the account balance model used in Ethereum. Users mostly see the details through the transaction summary provided by the wallet.

In a transfer, it is common for the wallet to create a change output to your own address. This does not mean a payment was automatically made to a second person. There may also be registration requirements, such as holding a specific amount of ADA alongside other tokens. Before interpreting the total ADA change on the transaction screen simply as the amount you sent, check the fee and output structure.

Staking with ADA

On Cardano, ADA holders can delegate to stake pools. In the network’s native delegation process, there is no need to give the private key to the pool operator. Delegation is the redirection of stake weight to a specific pool. The pool’s performance, commission, and distribution on the network affect the reward outcome. An exchange’s ADA earning product may have its own custody and service terms.

Selecting a pool, voting in governance, and depositing tokens into a smart contract are not the same transaction. The presence of similar buttons in a wallet does not eliminate this distinction. If a service asks you to send ADA to a different address, it is necessary to understand at what point this differs from native delegation. Earning rewards also does not automatically offset monetary loss if the price of ADA falls.

The Token’s Role in Governance

Representatives and different participant groups play a role in Cardano’s on-chain governance structure. ADA holders can participate in decision-making processes through supported methods or delegate their voting power to a representative. Governance delegation and stake pool delegation related to block production serve different purposes. Choosing one does not mean you are performing all the functions of the other.

Voting rights are not company shares or fixed income rights. There may be separate stages between a proposal being accepted and the software or applications actually being changed. Current participation conditions should be checked from official governance documents. A network period described in an old guide may not fully reflect today’s authority and transaction steps.

Supply and Use Cases

The maximum supply of ADA is defined as 45 billion. The circulating supply is not the same as the maximum supply. Staking rewards and treasury-related mechanisms are parts of the network’s economic order. When comparing the unit price with another coin, the supply difference must be taken into account; a low unit price alone does not mean a low valuation.

Swap, lending, and digital asset applications can be developed on Cardano. An application using ADA or running on Cardano is not a security approval. Contract design, administrator privileges, and the application’s liquidity are analyzed separately. The network’s research and development approach also does not indicate that every third-party application has undergone the same scrutiny.

Transfer and Market Data

When sending ADA, check that the receiving service supports the Cardano network, verify the address, and confirm minimum deposit conditions. A transaction confirmed on the network and an exchange crediting your account are different stages. A wallet’s recovery words affect all account control; they should never be shared with a pool operator or support staff. Representative tokens on other networks should not be confused with native ADA.

The chart on this page shows the price of ADA. The number of applications on the network, the staking ratio, or governance participation are different metrics and do not determine the future direction of the price on their own. The movement in the TL price is the combined result of the global ADA price and the currency exchange rate. The net offer of the platform you trade on may differ from the indicator price due to commissions and the bid-ask spread.
