BTC/USD is the value of one Bitcoin in US dollars. Because crypto markets are compared globally in dollars, the price levels in the news and most market cap figures are quoted in USD. The figure above is CoinMarketCap’s indicative USD price, not a binding quote from a single exchange.
How do you convert Bitcoin to dollars?
- BTC to USD: multiply your BTC amount by the dollar price of one Bitcoin.
- USD to BTC: divide your dollar budget by the dollar price of one Bitcoin.
The calculator shows an approximate value before fees and spread. If a platform takes its fee in BTC, you receive less; if it charges the fee separately in dollars, your total cost rises.
To calculate a price return, divide the new price by the starting price, subtract 1 and multiply by 100. The same move gives different percentages in each direction: a drop of only about 16.7% wipes out a 20% gain, because the starting value has changed.
Are BTC/USD and BTC/USDT the same?
No. USD is the official US currency, while USDT is a stablecoin designed to track the dollar. A large share of trading on crypto exchanges happens in the BTC/USDT pair. USDT usually trades very close to one dollar, but small deviations can open a gap between BTC/USDT and BTC/USD prices.
Why does the price differ between exchanges?
Each exchange has its own order book, user base and liquidity. Bitcoin trades around the clock, every day of the week, so there is no shared closing price; a chart’s “daily close” depends on the time zone it uses. Deposit and withdrawal conditions, the quote currency and sudden price swings all create short-lived differences between platforms.
Spread, fees and slippage
A market buy fills against the lowest ask and a market sell against the highest bid; the difference is the spread. Large orders fill across several price levels and shift the average price. Our guide to spread and slippage covers these costs in detail. Judge your result by the average price and fee lines in the exchange’s executed order details, not by the last price on screen.
Do you need to buy a whole Bitcoin?
No. One Bitcoin divides into 100 million satoshis, so you can buy small amounts such as 0.01 or 0.001 BTC. See our guide on how to buy Bitcoin for the steps.
How do you find Bitcoin’s value in Turkish lira?
Multiply the dollar price by the USD/TRY rate at the same moment to get an approximate lira value. To see lira amounts directly, use the Bitcoin price in TRY page. BTC/TRY prices on Turkish exchanges can differ slightly from this calculated figure because of the exchange rate used and trading costs.
