A First for Bitcoin Since Binance’s Inception: At its Lowest Level

Retail Bitcoin inflows on Binance have dropped to a daily average of 329 BTC, reaching the lowest point since the exchange’s inception.

While activity in the cryptocurrency markets continues, remarkable data keeps coming from the Binance front, one of the world’s largest exchanges by trading volume. According to current data shared by CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, the amount of assets transferred to the exchange by small investors holding less than 1 Bitcoin (BTC) in their wallets has hit a historic low.

Looking at the current data, daily inflows from retail investors to Binance are hovering around an average of 329 BTC. This figure remains well below the daily peak of 2,690 BTC seen during the 2021 bull market, which corresponded to a value of approximately $161.7 million. When examining data from previous years, retail interest was seen to increase in parallel with rising prices; however, the current cycle presents a completely opposite picture.

Why Have Retail Investors Moved Away from Bitcoin?

Analysts state that there are several fundamental reasons behind retail investors not making a traditional comeback in this cycle. It is thought that some investors are turning to different assets instead of buying Bitcoin (BTC) directly, or are participating in the market indirectly through spot Bitcoin ETF products. In particular, the proliferation of institutional products appears to have reduced the retail investor’s need to transfer assets directly to exchanges.

Additionally, the fact that many users in the market have now shifted from short-term trading to long-term holder positions is also playing a critical role in the decline of exchange inflows. Looking at 30-day moving averages, it is clear that retail inflows have experienced one of their most consistent declines since 2019. This situation proves that market dynamics have undergone a major shift compared to previous years and that retail investors have changed their strategies.
