Crypto Move from Russia’s Largest Private Bank: Date Announced

Alfa Bank, Russia’s largest private bank, is preparing to establish its own digital custody center to offer cryptocurrency services to customers following new legal regulations in the country.

The cryptocurrency ecosystem in Russia is on the brink of a major transformation as the government clarifies the new legal framework. One of the country’s financial giants, Alfa Bank, announced its plans to step into the digital asset world by offering comprehensive services to its customers. With this move, the bank aims to tap into opportunities in the global market as well as serving local investors.

Alfa Bank Chief Operating Officer Dmitry Vitman stated that the bank primarily plans to establish a brokerage service for retail investors. This structure is expected to become operational by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2027. Vitman predicts that the Russian cryptocurrency market will only achieve true liquidity by the end of 2027.

Cryptocurrency Law in Russia and Bank Preparations

This strategic step by the bank is based on the digital currency and digital rights law expected to come into force in Russia. The digital custody center to be established will be responsible for the secure storage, accounting, and transfer of assets. In addition to Alfa Bank, other major Russian banks such as Sber, VTB, and T-Bank are also working on similar custody centers and crypto wallet projects.

The new legal regulation is expected to come into full force on September 1. With this law, the cryptocurrency market will gain official status, and all transactions will fall under the supervision of the Central Bank of Russia. Banks aim to attract foreign investors to the country by developing investment products on open blockchain networks. In the shadow of Russia’s iconic structures, Bitcoin (BTC) and other digital assets are poised to play a more central role in the country’s financial future.
