ENS DAO’s Critical Defense Against Governance Attacks: Eight-Member Special Group Gains Veto Power
ENS DAO has approved the formation of a new Security Council consisting of eight members to serve for two years, aimed at preventing malicious transactions.
ENS DAO, responsible for the governance of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) ecosystem, has taken a strategic step to elevate network security. With the new proposal approved by the community, a specialized Security Council that will serve for the next two years has been officially launched. This council will serve as a defense mechanism particularly against harmful proposals that have passed the vote but have not yet been executed in the system.
Consisting of eight members, this group will operate with a 5/8 multi-signature (multisig) wallet structure. In this system, joint approval from at least five of the council members will be required to stop a transaction. The council’s primary authority will be limited to canceling transactions that pose a risk to the protocol during the two-day delay period that begins after a governance proposal is accepted.
ENS Security Council and Limits of Authority
The council’s powers have been established with very clear boundaries to protect the decentralized structure. Security Council members will not be able to move treasury funds on their own, submit new proposals, or make changes to existing proposals. Furthermore, they will not have the power to completely override final decisions made by the DAO. This structure ensures that the council acts only as an “emergency brake.”
Once the two-year term is completed, the council’s powers will automatically expire unless extended by ENS DAO through a new vote. In an announcement made on social media, the ENS team emphasized that this council will have veto power before the implementation phase, even if a malicious proposal is accepted. This move aims to make the protocol more resilient against governance attacks.
