The End of 12 Years of Bitcoin Patience: Whale With $434 Million Profit Empties Wallet

A whale who invested in Bitcoin (BTC) 12 years ago has realized a total profit of $434 million after selling their final holdings.

An early investor, often referred to as an “OG” in the crypto world, has completely cashed out a massive Bitcoin (BTC) fortune held for years. Having been in the market for over a decade, this investor executed a historic sale by transferring their final 1,000 Bitcoins to an exchange.

According to data shared by the on-chain data platform Lookonchain, the investor in question purchased 5,000 BTC exactly 12 years ago when the Bitcoin price was still at $332. The whale, who built this massive stockpile by paying only $1.66 million at the time, began the selling process in recent months. Looking at the transaction history, it appears the investor has been making gradual transfers to the Binance exchange over the last 10 months.

262x Return on Bitcoin Investment

The investor sold all 5,000 Bitcoins at an average price of $87,151, generating a total revenue of $435.75 million. The net profit earned during this process is staggering: exactly $434 million. Compared to the initial investment cost, this figure shows the investor multiplied their money approximately 262 times.

Upon examining the transaction details, it is clear that the whale spread out their exit strategy over time. After sending 500 BTC six months ago, 1,000 BTC four months ago, and another 500 BTC three months ago, the investor finally deposited the last 1,000 Bitcoins—worth $65.56 million—into the exchange two hours ago. Thus, a 12-year wait concluded as one of the most successful individual investment stories in cryptocurrency history.
