Morgan Stanley Steps In: Institutional Crypto Giant Eyeing Nasdaq with $5 Billion Valuation
Institutional crypto trading platform LMAX Group has partnered with major banks to evaluate initial public offering (IPO) or sale options with a target valuation of $5 billion.
London-based financial giant LMAX Group has reached a strategic crossroads to strengthen its position in global markets. To crown its growth in institutional crypto and foreign exchange markets, the company has discussed initial public offering (IPO) or direct sale possibilities with investment banks Morgan Stanley and KBW.
Nasdaq Route and $5 Billion Valuation for LMAX
LMAX’s growth story demonstrates how much institutional crypto infrastructure has matured within global financial markets. After reaching a $1 billion valuation in 2021 with investment from J.C. Flowers, the company now aims to elevate this figure to $5 billion. Currently, the most attractive option for the company’s management appears to be an IPO on the Nasdaq, the hub for technology giants. Despite fluctuations in crypto markets, the company is not rushing and is managing this process cautiously, thanks to its robust foreign exchange (FX) trading unit.
The bridge the company has built between traditional finance and digital assets plays a critical role in its success. In particular, the $150 million strategic investment made by Ripple in January aims for the institutional adoption of Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD. The multi-asset exchange introduced in February, offering 24-hour seamless trading capabilities, sets LMAX apart from its competitors. The wave of mergers gaining momentum with acquisitions by giants like Kraken and Bullish further increases LMAX’s strategic importance in meeting institutional demand.
