7-Year Silence Broken in Bitcoin: Massive 1,423% Surge in Exchange Inflows

The recent pullback in Bitcoin price, combined with the activation of long-dormant old supply and increasing miner stress, points to a new period of consolidation in the market.

Bitcoin (BTC) closed at the $62,763 level as of August 1, marking its lowest performance in the last two weeks. While this price movement may seem limited, the activation of dormant old supply in on-chain data signals a significant shift in market dynamics. In particular, the transfer of long-dormant assets to exchanges indicates a change in risk appetite among investors.

Over the past week, a massive surge was observed in the flow of Bitcoin supply to exchanges that had remained inactive for 2 to 7 years. According to the data, there was an extraordinary increase of 595% in the 3-5 year band and 1,016% in the 5-7 year band. As a result of this movement, assets worth approximately $315 million and $216 million were realized, respectively. While a large portion of this flow was concentrated on the Coinbase exchange, net inflows to the exchange increased by 1,423%. On the Binance side, inflows remained more balanced and stable, peaking at 3,289 units of (BTC) on July 31.

Miner Stress and Coinbase Premium Data

Another critical signal in the market was the miner capitulation indicator rising to level 1. This situation proves that miners’ hash capacity remains below the break-even point and operational costs are squeezing profitability. Looking at historical data, asset distribution by long-term investors and the tightening of miner margins typically occur in the final stages of price corrections rather than early trend reversals.

While derivatives markets remain calm, the Coinbase Premium index hovering between -0.09 and -0.14 reveals that spot demand in the U.S. is weak. The current outlook shows that despite the release of long-held supply into the market, demand is struggling to absorb this burden. In light of this data, rather than a sharp breakdown in Bitcoin price, a long consolidation process is expected to continue until the dormant supply is fully absorbed.
