Trillion-Dollar Crypto Move from the World’s Largest Custodian Bank: BNY Launches This Service

BNY, one of the world’s largest custodian banks, is launching a staking service in collaboration with Galaxy to offer its institutional clients the opportunity to earn yields on their digital assets.

Traditional finance giant BNY is deepening its presence in the cryptocurrency world by rolling out a staking service for institutional investors. By partnering with crypto financial services firm Galaxy, the bank is giving official approval from a giant managing trillions of dollars in assets to crypto yield mechanisms. Set to begin following regulatory approvals, this new service will allow institutional clients to lock their digital assets held on the BNY platform to contribute to network security and earn rewards in return.

Galaxy will provide the technical infrastructure and serve as a design partner for the bank in expanding its blockchain-based services. This collaboration enables large investors to conduct transactions directly through their existing accounts without moving their assets to another platform. These steps by an institution managing tens of trillions of dollars in assets are seen as a critical turning point in the integration of digital assets into the traditional financial system.

Blockchain Revolution and Tokenization in Institutional Finance

BNY is not limiting itself to custody and staking but is also moving its operational processes to blockchain technology. The bank aims to reduce dependency on intermediaries by migrating its core transfer agency record-keeping systems to an on-chain ledger. This transformation will allow for much more transparent and rapid tracking of ownership records.

Directing global finance from its headquarters in New York, the bank plans to provide seamless, 24/7 settlement for both traditional and tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds by 2027. In this context, the institution will begin testing tokenized Treasury bonds on a private blockchain network before the end of the year, aiming to become the new representative of legitimacy in the digital asset ecosystem.
