A Massive $15 Billion Migration in Crypto: BitGo Selects This Altcoin for Critical Infrastructure
BitGo has taken the most critical step in a massive $15 billion institutional migration wave by selecting the Chainlink (LINK) network over LayerZero as the exclusive cross-chain provider for Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC).
BitGo, one of the leading infrastructure providers in the cryptocurrency world, is making a strategic shift for Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), one of the sector’s most liquid assets. The company announced that it is abandoning its previously used LayerZero infrastructure to transition to the Chainlink network’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) solution, which is renowned for its security. This move paves the way for an era where security standards in the decentralized finance (DeFi) world are redefined at an institutional level.
Chainlink CCIP Becomes the New Standard in DeFi Infrastructure
This major transition decision was shaped by concerns following the $292 million security breach on Kelp DAO‘s LayerZero-backed bridge earlier this year. This incident shook the confidence of institutional investors and major projects in bridge protocols, causing them to seek safer havens. With BitGo moving WBTC assets—which have a market cap of approximately $7.4 billion—to Chainlink, the total value of assets migrating from LayerZero to Chainlink has reached roughly $14.6 billion. Prominent projects such as Mantle, Kraken, Lombard, and Solv Protocol have similarly shifted their course toward Chainlink CCIP.
BitGo stated that it will use Chainlink standards as the default for all future digital assets it issues and will standardize all processes with this system. Thanks to this new structure, the company will maintain full control over token contracts while managing advanced security measures such as rate limits for transfers between different blockchains. CCIP-supported WBTC pools have already begun listing on the Ethereum and Ronin networks. This step by BitGo, which serves as a global digital asset infrastructure company, demonstrates that security has now become the most fundamental priority in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
