End of the Road for AI-Focused Altcoin Project: Founder Throws in the Towel, Saying It’s “Completely Dead”

Eliza Labs founder Shaw Walters announced that the project’s native token is completely “dead” and the foundation has been shut down, explaining that all remaining funds were used to settle a class-action lawsuit.

Eliza Labs, which set out with high hopes at the intersection of artificial intelligence and the cryptocurrency world, has thrown in the towel after a grueling legal battle. Founder Shaw Walters sent a harsh farewell message to investors via social media, stating that the project’s native token no longer has any future and the foundation has ceased its activities.

The process began with a class-action lawsuit filed by the Burwick Law firm, which argued that the claim of the project being an “autonomous AI fund” did not reflect reality. Plaintiffs alleged that the project was actually controlled by Walters and his team, investors were misled, and unfair profits were obtained. Although Walters found these allegations “absurd,” he stated that they opted for a settlement by transferring all the money in the treasury to the plaintiffs because they no longer had the financial strength to sustain the legal process.

The End of Eliza Labs and the Autonomous AI Dream

Launched in October 2024 on the Solana (SOL) network under the name ai16z and rebranded as ElizaOS in January 2025, the project promised a structure where investment decisions would be made entirely by AI. However, at this stage, Walters accused the crypto community of “gambling and endless complaining,” declaring that he would never again issue a token associated with Eliza. The founder emphasized that he would now focus only on open-source AI technologies and make a fresh start by protecting the project’s intellectual property rights.

This collapse, which serves as a warning for investors, painfully demonstrated how autonomous fund promises can be shaken on legal grounds. Walters’ use of the phrases “completely over” and “not gonna make it” (ngmi) for the token certified that the project’s financial arm has closed. Like the last light leaking from a dark room being cut off, the doors in the cryptocurrency market appear to have closed completely for Eliza Labs.
