Trump Media and Crypto.com Partnership Ends Abruptly: Popular Altcoin Drops 4%
As Trump Media and Crypto.com terminate their partnership due to shifting corporate strategies, the decision has created a noticeable impact on the cryptocurrency market and the price of Cronos (CRO).
Trump Media, the parent company of the Truth Social platform, has decided to halt two major collaborations with the giant cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com. Citing shifting corporate priorities and current market conditions, this split led to a nearly 4% decline in the price of Cronos (CRO), the exchange’s native token. This move is being characterized as a significant “U-turn” in the Trump camp’s cryptocurrency strategy.
The canceled projects included highly ambitious initiatives. Specifically, the merger agreement planned under the name Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, Inc., which aimed to establish a public digital asset treasury company, has been completely shelved. Crypto.com announced it will no longer provide services for the cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) Yorkville planned to offer under the Truth.Fi brand. Additionally, crypto asset projects announced last year and planned for distribution as shareholder rewards were also canceled during this process.
Trump Media’s Bitcoin Treasury and Future Plans
Despite the end of the partnerships, Trump Media has not completely withdrawn from the crypto world. The company continues to hold the world’s 14th largest public Bitcoin (BTC) treasury, valued at over $600 million. This situation indicates that the company still views crypto assets as a store of value on a corporate level but is moving away from direct operational and partnership-based projects for now.
A recent transfer of 2,628 Bitcoin (BTC) that caught attention in on-chain data had caused brief anxiety in the market. However, a company spokesperson confirmed that these transfers were not for sale purposes and were merely a relocation between wallets. This development, highlighting the delicate balance of politically-linked crypto projects during the pre-election period, proves once again how quickly corporate priorities can shift.
