Crypto Giant Coinbase Makes Major Move in UK: 50x Leverage Era Across 170+ Products

Following its MiFID license acquisition, Coinbase has reached a critical stage in its “Everything Exchange” strategy by launching derivative products with up to 50x leverage for professional investors in the UK.

In line with its goal of strengthening European operations, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has launched a new derivative product suite for professional clients in the UK. This development, made possible by the company’s recent MiFID license, represents the platform’s vision of transforming from a crypto-focused structure into a multi-asset financial ecosystem.

With the new service, eligible investors will have access to perpetual futures contracts (perpetuals), dated futures contracts, and crypto options. This offering, which will be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, includes more than 170 contracts covering crypto, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange markets. While 50x leverage is available for perpetual futures, the limit for dated futures has been set at 20x leverage.

Coinbase Starts 50x Leverage Trading Era in the UK

This move by the company stands out as part of its revenue diversification strategy. According to second-quarter data, Coinbase generated 88 percent of its net revenue from areas other than spot Bitcoin trading. The exchange, which hit a record by increasing its share of global crypto trading volume to 10.3 percent, also opened around 4,000 US stocks to users in the UK last week.

Describing itself as the most comprehensive regulated crypto player in the UK market, Coinbase is currently limiting options trading to crypto assets. Professional investors will be able to execute call and put options as well as multi-leg strategies in this area. The company continues to expand its range of financial products in the region by utilizing the authorizations gained through its MiFID license.
