Coinbase Affiliate Deribit Obtains Broker-Dealer License from Dubai: Hundreds of Spot Assets on the Way

Coinbase affiliate Deribit has paved the way for a new era by routing spot transactions directly to Coinbase Exchange, following the Broker-Dealer license it received from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA).

VARA, which regulates the virtual asset market in Dubai, has granted Deribit a Broker-Dealer license. This license will expand the scope of the platform’s existing spot product while enabling buy, sell, and trade orders to be forwarded to and executed on Coinbase Exchange. Users will thus be able to benefit from Coinbase’s trading infrastructure and liquidity.

Deribit has been offering spot trading since January 2025 under VARA’s Exchange Services license. With the new regulation, orders are planned to be routed to one of Coinbase Exchange’s largest and most liquid central limit order books. The company states that this structure will provide deeper liquidity, tighter bid-ask spreads, and better execution conditions.

Deribit to provide access to Coinbase liquidity

One of the most notable outcomes of the license will be an increase in the number of tradable assets on Deribit. By providing access to assets listed on Coinbase Exchange, hundreds of new assets could be added to the platform. This development will allow users to trade with a wider selection of tokens in the spot market.

Assets purchased through the new spot platform are also planned to be used as collateral for derivative trades on Deribit, following necessary regulatory approval. This way, users will be able to utilize assets acquired in the spot market for futures trading without withdrawing them from the platform. The regulation will allow Deribit to integrate its spot and derivative products within the same trading ecosystem.
