Bitcoin Records Its Largest Weekly Dollar Gain in History: Price Rises by $14,264

Bitcoin rose by $14,264 in the week ending August 23, recording the largest weekly dollar gain in its history and closing at $77,387.

The historic rally in Bitcoin gained momentum following the U.S. Treasury Department’s announcement to expand its buyback program. According to data reported by The Block, this move fueled a 22.7 percent increase in Bitcoin’s price within seven days.

The surge was also reflected in investor interest. Spot ETFs that hold Bitcoin directly saw $1.92 billion in net inflows during the trading week ending August 21. SoSoValue data showed this amount to be the highest weekly inflow seen since October 2025. The index measuring the balance of fear and greed also climbed to level 78, reaching its highest point since December 2024.

Bitcoin’s $100,000 scenario depends on conditions

Strive CEO Matt Cole stated that Bitcoin’s strong performance against both the dollar and gold indicates the new cycle could be the “strongest cycle yet.” The ratio showing the amount of gold per Bitcoin also rose to 16.73 ounces, its highest level since May.

Zeus Research analyst Dominick John noted that the first significant level is the reclamation of $80,000. He stated that if ETF inflows and macro liquidity remain supportive, the $85,000-$90,000 range could come into play, with $100,000 possible under more favorable conditions. These levels stand out as conditional forecasts rather than realized prices.

BTC Markets analyst Rachael Lucas said the sharp rise could stem from a combination of spot demand, short covering, and movement in derivatives trading. ETF flows and spot trading volume confirm the uptrend, while the excessive increase in funding rates and open interest could heighten the risk of a leverage-driven pullback. A strengthening dollar and hawkish shifts in interest rate expectations are also among the factors that could limit the rally.
