Upbit Issues Trading Warning for This Altcoin: Support May Be Terminated!

Cryptocurrency exchange Upbit announced that it has placed an altcoin under a trading warning to protect investors.

As of August 24, 2026, at 15:00 KST, Upbit has designated a trading warning status for The Sandbox (SAND). The announcement stated that the decision was made due to a security incident, such as an unexplained or unresolved hack, involving the virtual asset, wallets managed by the issuer or operator, or the distributed ledgers where assets are issued, transferred, and stored, and the potential for user loss.

The trading warning covers the SAND/KRW and SAND/BTC pairs. Upbit announced that this status will be applied from August 24, 2026, at 15:00 KST until the fifth week of September 2026, between September 28 and October 4.

The exchange will conduct a detailed review of The Sandbox following the trading warning. Based on the review, a decision may be made to extend the warning period, remove the status, or completely terminate trading support. It was noted that if the reasons for the warning are not fully resolved, trading support may be terminated, and decisions regarding extension or termination will be communicated through a separate announcement.

Deposit and withdrawal services for The Sandbox were suspended on August 22, 2026, at 11:12 KST. Upbit stated that if services are resumed, only withdrawals will be initiated, while deposits will be announced based on the process following the trading warning. SAND deposits made after the announcement will not be reflected in accounts and will be subject to a refund process.

SAND has also been removed from the list of lendable assets in Upbit’s Coin Borrowing service. Consequently, new and additional borrowing applications are restricted, while existing transactions will continue until the contract maturity and can be repaid until the maturity date.
