Bitcoin Sets $14,775 Weekly Record in Dollar Terms: Ranks 41st with 24% Increase

Bitcoin surged by $14,775 during the week of August 17-23, recording its largest weekly increase in history in dollar terms.

Bitcoin rose from $62,818 to $77,593 during the week of August 17-23, 2026. According to Galaxy Research data shared by Wu Blockchain, this move represented a record increase of $14,775 in terms of the difference between weekly closes.

However, the surge was not at the same level in percentage terms. Bitcoin’s weekly return was calculated at 23.5%, ranking 41st on the list of the strongest weekly gains of all time. This rate marked the highest weekly percentage increase recorded since March 2023.

Bitcoin’s weekly gain in dollar terms breaks record

The price climbing from $62,818 to $77,593 created the largest dollar difference Bitcoin has ever seen within a single week. Conversely, because the percentage calculation is based on the starting price, the same movement did not rank first in historical standings.

In other words, Bitcoin ranked first in terms of dollar gains but remained 41st in terms of percentage return. This distinction demonstrated that a strong movement occurring at high price levels can set a record in dollar terms, yet rank lower when calculated relative to the starting price.

In Galaxy Research’s study, weekly data were compared based on Sunday closes. The table in the image revealed that the week of August 17-23 placed first in dollar terms out of 840 weeks of Bitcoin data examined since July 2010.
