Crypto Giants Enter US Elections with $122 Million: 50 Candidates Pass First Hurdle
As nearly 50 crypto-backed candidates pass US primaries, $122 million is being held ready for the general election period.
The political fund Fairshake, funded by Coinbase, Ripple, and a16z, has emerged from the majority of US primaries with significant gains. According to reports from CoinDesk, as nearly 50 candidates passed the first stage, the fund’s focus has shifted to the November 3 general elections, which will determine the composition of Congress.
The fund, which makes independent political expenditures, contributed to the Republican primary victories of Barry Moore of Alabama, Andy Barr of Kentucky, Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, and Harriet Hageman of Wyoming. Additionally, it supported seven sitting members of Congress described as pro-crypto against their challengers.
The Crypto Industry’s $122 Million Election Budget
The $122 million held for the general election period constitutes a resource that could extend the influence of crypto companies in US politics across a broader spectrum. If a portion of the candidates backed by the fund win the general election, new faces receptive to crypto regulations could join Congress next year.
The new distribution of seats is critical for how support for crypto legislation will take shape in the House of Representatives and the Senate. The future of comprehensive regulations being drafted for digital asset markets may also be influenced by the election results.
The fund’s spending did not yield results in every race. Over $10 million was spent to defeat Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, but the Democratic candidate’s primary victory could not be prevented. Some primaries in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Delaware, and Louisiana have not yet been completed.
