More Than $1 Billion in Stablecoin Inflows to Binance Not Enough: Major Exchange Reserves Decline

Despite more than $1 billion in stablecoin inflows to Binance in August, year-to-date outflows and the decline in exchange reserves continue.

The net stablecoin inflow seen on Binance in August signaled a short-term improvement in liquidity conditions. However, this development could not offset the $5.1 billion in net outflows since the beginning of the year and the total reserve loss across major cryptocurrency exchanges.

According to data from CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, as reported by Wu Blockchain, Binance recorded more than $1 billion in net stablecoin inflows in August. Conversely, stablecoin reserves on major exchanges decreased by a total of more than $16 billion. This picture indicates that the monthly improvement at Binance has not yet created a permanent reversal in the broader liquidity outlook.

Comparison of Binance stablecoin flows and Bitcoin price by year

Binance Accounts for 71 Percent of Stablecoin Flows

Binance accounts for approximately 71 percent of stablecoin movements between exchanges. Therefore, inflows and outflows on the platform are significant for the overall outlook of liquidity available for cryptocurrency transactions. While the August data is positive, the fact that the annual total remains negative continues to raise questions about the sustainability of new capital inflows.

Bitcoin rose approximately 25 percent in August and reclaimed $75,000 while stablecoin outflows continued. Darkfost noted that downward pressure on Bitcoin could return if stablecoin demand does not recover. Thus, following the price increase in August, the key topic to watch in the market will be whether the liquidity flowing into exchanges will increase permanently.
