Bitcoin Cash is a separate blockchain network that split from the Bitcoin network in 2017 and continues with the asset named BCH. It focuses on the use of peer-to-peer electronic payments. Having a shared history with Bitcoin does not mean that today’s BTC and BCH balances are the same. Each network has its own transaction history, miners, software rules, and market price.

Key differences between BTC and BCH

One of the issues at the center of the split was how to scale network capacity. Bitcoin Cash took an approach that emphasized processing more transactions on the main chain. Over time, it developed its own capacity and application features. This historical difference does not mean that one side is automatically superior for all usage needs; rather, it reflects different design preferences.

From a user perspective, the most concrete difference is the requirement to conduct transfers on the correct network. Sending BTC to a service requesting BCH, or vice versa, is not a valid payment. Some older address formats may look similar. A wallet’s formal acceptance of an address does not guarantee that the receiving service will recognize that asset. The coin symbol and network name must be verified together.

How is BCH produced and transferred?

Bitcoin Cash operates via proof-of-work and uses SHA-256 mining. Nodes audit network rules while miners attempt to create valid blocks. The maximum supply of BCH is defined as approximately 21 million. The block reward decreases at specific intervals; user balances do not halve along with these halving events.

Transactions can be constructed using unspent outputs (UTXOs). The wallet may return the portion remaining after your sent amount and fee to your own change address. Seeing multiple outputs in a single transaction does not always mean that payments are being made to multiple independent individuals. The network fee and an exchange’s withdrawal deduction are not the same thing; check the net amount to be received separately.

Confirmations in payment usage

The propagation of a BCH transaction across the network and its inclusion in a block are different stages. Some services may apply different acceptance policies for low amounts; this does not mean that an unconfirmed transaction is finalized in every case. The number of confirmations required by the recipient can vary based on the transaction amount and service policy. A “Sent” screen alone does not prove that a commercial payment has been completed.

For example, a merchant may provide a BCH amount for payment that is valid for a specific period. If the price has changed when the time expires, an underpayment or overpayment may occur. Verifying the address to be used when a refund is required is also a separate step. The blockchain does not automatically audit whether the merchant has delivered the product or if the agreement between you has been correctly implemented.

What does CashTokens provide?

CashTokens are protocol features that allow for the creation of fungible and non-fungible tokens on Bitcoin Cash. These tokens are not BCH itself. An application’s token may have its own issuance and usage conditions. The fact that the network is protected by proof-of-work does not mean the economic value of the token or the promise behind it is guaranteed.

Using a wallet that supports tokens and knowing which assets the receiving service accepts is important. Sending a transaction containing additional tokens to a platform that only supports BCH transfers may not yield the expected result. A token’s name or image does not replace its official source. Issuer and technical identity information should be verified separately.

Legacy fork rights and wallet security

You may encounter sites claiming that you have asset rights due to a past network split. Giving an old wallet’s private key or recovery words to a site can endanger other assets controlled by that key. Verifying fork history and handing over a key to a third party are not the same thing.

If you hold BCH, obtain up-to-date and supported wallet software from the official source. When using an old backup, determine the network, address format, and which chain the balance is located on. Fee and success claims from services promising recovery should not be accepted as absolute. Since on-chain transfers have no central reversal mechanism, verification before the transaction is of critical importance.
