Major Crypto Exchange Seeks to Offer 63 U.S. Stocks With Dividend and Voting Rights

The joint venture between OKX and NYSE parent company ICE has filed with the SEC to offer tokenized stocks that preserve dividend and voting rights, outlining a plan that initially covers 63 companies.

According to a report by Wu Blockchain, citing Bloomberg, OKXICE LLC has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to establish a tokenized stock trading platform in the United States. The partnership between crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) aims to offer shares in companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as digital assets that can be traded on a blockchain.

The platform is initially expected to include shares of 63 companies listed on the NYSE. The venture therefore aims to bring traditional stock markets and blockchain-based trading together on a single platform.

Stock tokens will carry dividend and voting rights

The temporary exemption framework introduced by the SEC last month paved the way for blockchain-based securities to be traded in the United States. Under this framework, the digital shares offered must preserve all shareholder rights, including dividend and voting rights.

That is also a notable aspect of the plan for investors: As the shares trade on a blockchain, the digital asset will also carry the rights to receive the company’s profit distributions and participate in shareholder votes.

What steps are expected before the platform launches?

The companies whose shares are planned to be offered will be given 30 days to opt out of the platform before trading begins. As a result, the initial scope of 63 companies will depend on the decisions those companies make.

OKXICE’s launch depends on completing this process and meeting other requirements. The filing marks a concrete step toward establishing the platform, while these conditions are expected to be met before trading begins.
