Stock Trading Gains Traction on Major Crypto Exchange: Volume More Than Quadrupled in a Month!

Gate’s volume in perpetual futures tied to stock prices rose 308% in August from the previous month, while a CryptoQuant analysis noted that the exchange’s growth had spread to assets beyond crypto.

The 308% monthly increase cited in the analysis means trading volume in these products exceeded four times the previous month’s level. Futures contracts tied to stock prices allow investors to take positions on the price movements of the relevant stocks.

Stocks and real-world assets take center stage

Gate’s product range includes perpetual futures tied to stocks and real-world assets (RWA), gStocks, stocks, exchange-traded funds, and contracts for difference. CryptoQuant views this diversification as an example of traditional financial assets meeting crypto trading infrastructure.

The analysis puts Gate’s share of open interest in RWA-linked perpetual futures at 49.6%. Considered alongside trading volume, this figure shows the exchange’s prominence in these products.

Open interest remained in the billions of dollars as Bitcoin fell

The chart shows that Gate’s Bitcoin open interest has declined from a peak approaching $10 billion in 2025, but stood at $4.4 billion at the latest point. The Bitcoin price is shown at about $83,800 at the same point.

Open interest refers to the total size of derivatives contracts that have not yet been closed. CryptoQuant interprets the figure remaining in the billions of dollars despite the price decline as a sign that derivatives activity on the exchange is not tied solely to periods of rising prices.

Growth last year was also notable

Gate’s perpetual futures trading volume increased by more than 468% in 2025 compared with the previous year. This was the fastest growth among the exchanges tracked in the analysis. The chart showing cumulative volume since the start of 2026 also puts futures trading above the spot market.

The data highlight the growing role of leveraged products and trading tied to traditional assets in Gate’s growth.
