South Korea Blocks Access to 27 Crypto Exchanges, Including Familiar Names

South Korea has ordered restrictions on domestic access to the websites of 27 unregistered foreign crypto exchanges, including KuCoin, MEXC, and BingX.

According to a report by Wu Blockchain citing Etoday, the South Korean Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) said it made the decision following inspections conducted by the communications oversight agency on October 6–7. Restrictions previously imposed on downloading and updating the exchanges’ apps are now being expanded to cover their websites as well.

Which exchanges are on the list?

The 27 platforms facing access restrictions include KuCoin, MEXC, Phemex, XT.com, Bitrue, CoinW, Poloniex, BTCC, BingX, and BitMart. The decision targets foreign exchanges operating in South Korea without registering.

Authorities plan to seek additional access restrictions on alternative domain names used to circumvent the blocks. This is intended to ensure that oversight is not limited to the exchanges’ current website addresses.

Users will be directed to withdraw funds

Users affected by the restrictions will receive information on withdrawals through DAXA. The FIU has also referred 44 unregistered virtual asset service providers to investigative authorities.
