Deutsche Bank plans to take its institutional crypto custody service, which it is preparing to launch in Germany, to Asia in 2027 and expand its digital asset services beyond Europe.
According to CoinDesk, which cited Reuters, the bank aims to launch the service in Germany within weeks. Its expansion into Asia could give institutional clients who want to hold crypto assets without setting up their own wallet and private-key infrastructure access through a global bank.
New Services to Join Crypto Custody
The planned custody service will allow companies and institutional clients to hold and transfer crypto assets. The bank will provide the technology needed to securely hold the assets.
Deutsche Bank also plans to offer services such as stablecoin conversion, tokenized deposits, and support for digital bond issuance. This means its digital asset strategy will not be limited to crypto custody.
Bitcoin and Ethereum on the Initial Asset List
In a statement in September, the bank said it planned to support Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the USDC, EURC, and EURAU stablecoins in the first phase. It is not yet clear which markets the bank will enter first in its Asian expansion or what scope the services will have.
According to the ESMA interim register entry cited by CoinDesk, BaFin authorized the bank on October 12 under the European Union’s MiCA regulation. The report also notes that the launch in Germany is still subject to regulatory approval; it does not provide details about what additional approval is pending.
2027 Plan Part of Corporate Banking Growth Target
The expansion into Asia is part of the bank’s broader strategy, which targets compound annual growth of approximately 8% in corporate banking revenue over the 2025–2028 period. This figure was not announced as a revenue forecast specifically for crypto services.
Deutsche Bank is working with Bitpanda and Taurus on its custody plans. Banks such as Standard Chartered and BBVA are also active in custodying crypto assets for institutional clients.
