BNB Chain’s New Network Move: Why Did CZ Say ‘One Coin’?

No separate token will be issued for BNB Chain’s new network, which will run alongside BSC; BNB will be used for everything from transaction fees to governance.

According to Wu Blockchain, BNB Chain shared plans for a new layer-1 (L1) blockchain in documents updated on October 22. The network, which has not yet been named, is expected to work alongside BSC, with the two networks connected by a native bridge.

CZ responded to the plan with the words “Multiple chains, one coin.” At the heart of the announcement is the decision not to issue a separate token despite building a new network: BNB will also be used on the new chain to pay transaction fees, for staking, and for governance.

What role will BNB play on the new network?

The plan extends BNB’s utility to the new chain. Users will pay transaction fees in BNB; the same asset will also be used for staking, which involves locking tokens to help secure the network, and for governance processes that allow participation in network decisions.

Technical targets include a block time of approximately 200 milliseconds and a 20-millisecond pre-confirmation. These figures are the performance targets set for the network, which is still under development.

Timeline set for testnet and mainnet

An internal development network with multiple validators is already running. The next step, a public testnet, is planned for late 2026, while the mainnet is expected to go live in early 2027.

The goal is a setup in which a second network runs alongside BSC, the two chains are connected by a bridge, and BNB is used for core functions.
