$5.3 Billion Left Binance in One Hour: What Share of Its Assets Was That?

An on-chain data post reporting that $5.3 billion left Binance wallets in one hour during the attack showed that the amount was equivalent to 3% of the exchange’s approximately $160 billion in assets.

According to an analysis shared by the @anti_fragile account on X, Binance experienced its largest hourly wallet outflow to date. The $5.3 billion movement, which was linked to the attack, was described in the post as approximately four times the outflow observed in 2021.

What share of total assets did the record outflow represent?

The analysis put the assets Binance manages on-chain at approximately $160 billion. Comparing the two figures puts the hourly outflow at approximately 3.3%; the post rounded the figure to 3%.

This comparison puts the amount that left the wallets during the attack in the context of the exchange’s total on-chain assets. The measurement covers wallet outflows; no separate breakdown was provided for customer withdrawals or confirmed net losses.

We covered the initial price movements connected to the Binance incident in our report on the declines in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB. This new measurement focuses less on the price reaction and more on the historical scale of the wallet movement and its share of total assets.
