The Foundation announced a 40 percent budget reduction while laying off approximately 20 percent of its workforce. The Foundation’s decision came immediately after the establishment of EthLabs, a new research organization supported by key ecosystem stakeholders. Yakovenko noted that budget constraints would necessitate the prioritization of goals and that a smaller structure could correct mistakes by making much faster decisions. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin also supported this vision, emphasizing that the foundation is no longer the sole center of the network but just one of the nodes within a massive ecosystem.
This transformation of the ecosystem allows Ethereum to take on a more resilient and independent structure, like a new light shining on the horizon. Joe Lubin and others state that distributing responsibility to many independent organizations rather than a single institution will make the network stronger.
