The question of why the anticipated massive rally in cryptocurrency markets has failed to launch finds a clear answer in recent exchange data. According to data shared by CryptoQuant, spot trading volumes for the leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin (BTC) are experiencing a significant global contraction. The high levels of interest seen in late 2024 have been replaced by a silence reminiscent of the most stagnant bear market periods of 2023.

The loss of volume on major exchanges provides a tangible look at the decline in investor appetite. On Binance, the world’s largest exchange, volume dropped from $246 billion in November 2024 to $35 billion in July. This dramatic decline was not limited to a single platform; Bybit saw an 85% drop, Coinbase fell by 61%, and OKX experienced a 67% loss in volume. Charts indicate that trading intensity has bottomed out simultaneously across almost all major platforms.
