This new status grants the Wintermute USA unit the right to become a “designated market maker” on major platforms such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq. Market makers serve as critical intermediaries that keep buy and sell orders constantly live, allowing investors to trade without delay. With this authorization, the company initially plans to focus on crypto-linked commodities and digital asset exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

A Crypto-Native Rival to Wall Street Giants

Wintermute aims to compete in the same league as traditional finance giants like Jump Trading, Jane Street, and Citadel Securities over the next 3 to 5 years. Having already added several ETF issuers to its client portfolio, the company is integrating its operational strength into traditional markets. If US regulators grant the necessary approvals, the firm’s next stop will be the tokenized stocks market.

The registration of a crypto-native company under Wall Street’s strict rules is seen as a symbolic milestone in the integration of digital assets with the traditional system.
