Solana Outage Alarm: Network Reaches 86% of Transaction Finality Threshold

28.83% of SOL assets locked on the Solana network went offline, approaching the threshold that would halt transaction finality.

Marinade Finance announced that approximately 90 validators were affected by today’s incident and that the outage stemmed from a routing failure caused by infrastructure provider Teraswitch. While a sufficient portion of validators must remain online for transaction finality on the network, the offline share approached a critical level.

At the center of the outage were validators hosted on the network identified as AS20326. While approximately 118.9 million SOL was held in this infrastructure, this amount accounted for 27.34% of the total network stake. 94% of this share went offline simultaneously. On Solana, transaction finality can halt when the offline stake reaches 33.34%.

Solana reached 86 percent of the halt threshold

In the chart based on Marinade’s validator data, the peak of the incident was recorded at 03:58 UTC. At this time, the amount of offline or problematic stake reached 125,076,835 SOL, leaving the network approximately 19.9 million SOL away from the halt threshold. The chart showed that the level reached corresponded to approximately 86 percent of the finality halt limit.

Traffic returned to normal after approximately 33 minutes. The total loss of the affected validators was calculated at approximately 333 SOL in rewards. Marinade stated that the incident revealed concentration risks across different networks, data centers, and validator backup systems. The company announced it would re-examine future concentration limits.
