XRP Surges 39% to Surpass $1.40: Rally Spreads to Altcoins
According to data from TheBlock dated August 21, while Bitcoin rose above $79,000 and recorded its strongest weekly gain in two years, XRP increased by approximately 40 percent, and altcoins including LINK and ZEC joined a broad rally.
XRP took center stage in the rally. The token rose 39 percent throughout the week, surpassing the $1.40 level for the first time in months. This performance showed that the surge was not confined only to Bitcoin or a few altcoins.
Chainlink (LINK) and Zcash (ZEC) gained over 30 percent in value throughout the week. Solana (SOL) and Cardano (ADA) also recorded strong increases. Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) rose between 24-28 percent. Nexo Dispatch analyst Iliya Kalchev said that the gains, unlike the narrow movements of previous weeks, have spread across the entire sector. According to Kalchev, this broad base suggests the rally could be more sustainable. The analyst also noted that XRP found support from optimism regarding crypto regulations in the US.
Altcoin rally expanded under XRP’s lead
Analysts state that the movement in Bitcoin is supported by direct buying demand and ETF interest. However, for the surge to be sustainable, the Bitcoin price needs to hold above $70,000. Opinions differ regarding the initial spark of the rally. Bernstein pointed to the Treasury’s expanded buyback program as liquidity support. MEXC Research argued that too much credit was given to this program and that the rise was premature.
Following Donald Trump’s statements regarding Hyperliquid’s legal operation in the US, the HYPE token rose 37 percent, hitting an all-time high of around $78 on Friday. Sygnum analysts expect institutional ETF inflows, progress in regulations, and increasing public-level interest to maintain support for crypto assets.
