Bitcoin Posted Strongest August Gain Since 2017: Market Enthusiasm Lags Behind
While Bitcoin showed its strongest monthly performance since 2017 with a nearly 25 percent increase in August, market sentiment lagged behind the sideways period in July.
Bitcoin exhibited a strong rally in August, but this movement was not reflected to the same extent in investors’ social media conversations. According to Santiment Intelligence data, the price rose from approximately $64,700 to $78,300 between August 18-21 and ended the month with a gain of roughly 25 percent.
This performance marked Bitcoin’s strongest August since 2017. Conversely, sentiment data tracking the balance between positive and negative market discourse failed to reach the previous month’s levels. During the August 19-31 period, average sentiment was measured at +32. In July, while the Bitcoin price trended sideways around $63,000, this average stood at +72.

Bitcoin rose, market enthusiasm lagged behind
Daily data also revealed the same divergence. During the August rally, the highest sentiment level observed was +73. In contrast, the highest daily value in July reached +183. Thus, although the price increase was much stronger, the social market mood did not appear as optimistic as during the previous sideways period.
A security incident involving Coldcard at the beginning of August also severely impacted sentiment. The indicator, which dropped to -540 on August 1, recovered to approximately zero by August 19, when the rally began. Data showed that although the Bitcoin price moved to a new level, investor psychology did not strengthen at the same pace.
