MetaMask Security Incident: First Update for Wallet Users

MetaMask announced that it has begun deactivating affected validators in its staking service as it responds to a security incident impacting part of its infrastructure, and that it had detected no immediate threat to wallets at the time of the announcement.

According to the company statement reported by Wu Blockchain, the response to the security incident is ongoing. MetaMask is working with its own teams, as well as external partners and security advisers, to resolve the issue.

The most important point in the announcement for wallet users was the company’s statement that it had not identified an immediate threat to MetaMask wallets. This assessment reflects the company’s findings at the time of the announcement.

Precautionary Measure Taken in Staking Service

As a precautionary measure, MetaMask is removing validators affected by the incident from staking operations. The process is being carried out in coordination with customers and partners.

The company also emphasized that its staking service is non-custodial. Accordingly, MetaMask does not manage the keys that enable staking assets to be withdrawn on behalf of customers.

MetaMask said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and share further updates as developments occur.
