SEC Approves 3x-Leveraged Bitcoin and Ether Products—But It’s Not Just Crypto

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved a rule change allowing three-times-leveraged exchange-traded products based on Bitcoin and Ether, as well as four commodities, to be listed and traded on Cboe BZX.

The decision, dated October 2 and shared by Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas and reported by Wu Blockchain, marked a new regulatory step for Volatility Shares. Balchunas described the approval covering six products as a significant win for the company.

Four commodities join Bitcoin and Ether

The approved products are based on Bitcoin, Ether, gold, silver, crude oil, and natural gas. Each product carries three-times leverage and is a separate series under the VS Trust umbrella.

The decision therefore covers not only cryptocurrency products, but also products tied to precious metals and energy markets. For crypto investors, the key development is that this regulatory step toward listing products offering leveraged exposure to Bitcoin and Ether on an exchange has been completed.

Listing approval granted, trading schedule not announced

Cboe BZX submitted its proposal to the SEC on August 10; the rule change was opened for public comment on August 19. The Commission approved the application in its October 2 order.

The announcement does not specify the products’ first trading day. The decision covers the rule change for listing and trading, but no schedule has yet been announced in this update for when the products will actually become available to investors.
