Surprise Transfer From 10-Year-Old Wallet Linked to Bitcoin With Lost Keys

A wallet attributed to Clifton Collins, who made headlines over 6,000 Bitcoin he reportedly lost the keys to, sent 500 BTC to Coinbase Prime after more than 10 years of inactivity.

On-chain data platform Lookonchain reported that the transfer from an address it linked to Irishman Clifton Collins was worth approximately $41.52 million. The Bitcoin was deposited into Coinbase’s institutional service, Coinbase Prime.

Wallet in lost-key story becomes active again

What makes the transaction noteworthy is not just the amount, but also the wallet’s history. Collins was reportedly said to have lost the keys that gave him access to 6,000 BTC. A transfer from an address associated with this case after more than a decade has brought the question of access to the Bitcoin back into focus.

The movement reported by Lookonchain in this post was a 500 BTC exchange deposit. No details were shared about who made the transfer or how the keys were accessed, and no information was provided to indicate that the Bitcoin sent to the exchange had been sold.
