Anthropic shares seized by the U.S. government from FTX and sold for $627 million could be worth about $3.94 billion, based on valuation estimates for the AI company’s planned IPO, according to a report.
According to a Wu Blockchain report citing BeInCrypto, details emerged in Anthropic’s S-1 IPO filing about the sale of 4.453.900 Series B shares. The difference between the sale made to repay FTX creditors and the estimated value ahead of the IPO drew attention.
Shares Were Sold Last Year
Anthropic bought back the shares from the U.S. government in October 2025 for about $140.97 per share. The company later transferred the block to nine buyers whose identities were not disclosed, at the price it had paid.
As a result, the FTX-linked shares held by the government changed hands for a total of $627 million; details of the sale came to light in the company’s IPO filing.
IPO Valuation Widens the Estimated Value Gap
Valuations projected for Anthropic’s planned Nasdaq IPO could put the same block of shares at about $3.94 billion. That amount is approximately 6.3 times the sale price last year.
The $3.94 billion figure in the comparison is based on an IPO valuation estimate, not a completed sale. A different final price would also change the calculated value of the shares.
Anthropic’s IPO filing had previously drawn attention to transactions linked to the company in crypto markets; this time, details in the filing shed light on the price at which assets seized from FTX were sold.
