Bitcoin Hits 21-Month Low: Whales Selling While Retailers Buying—What Does It Mean?

As the Bitcoin price retreats to the $58,100 level, hitting its lowest levels in the last 21 months, large investors continue to sell while retail investors view this dip as a buying opportunity.

The cryptocurrency market leader, Bitcoin (BTC), continues to test investors with the value losses it has experienced in recent weeks. As market dynamics shift with the price pulling back to the $58,100 range, data shared by on-chain analytics platform Santiment reveals that different investor groups are following diametrically opposed strategies.

The market’s major players, referred to as “whales” and “sharks,” do not seem particularly moved by the current price movements. On the contrary, these large wallet holders are opting to reduce their holdings and partially withdraw from the market. On the other hand, retail investors continue to fill their wallets, believing the price has bottomed out.

Whales Are Selling, Retail Investors Are Accumulating

According to shared analyses, since June 15, large investors holding between 10 and 10,000 Bitcoin (BTC) in their wallets have reduced their assets by 0.37%. This situation indicates that the market’s main stakeholders are not yet convinced to buy at current price levels and are considering the possibility that the decline may continue for some time. This lack of interest from large investors is causing pressure on the price to remain persistent.

On the other hand, small-scale wallets with a balance of less than 0.01 BTC increased their holdings by 0.51% during the same period. This eager attitude of retail investors proves that a buy-the-dip strategy prevails in the market. However, experts emphasize that for a real recovery and the formation of a permanent bottom level, large investors must start accumulating again. Until whales reappear on the scene, the crypto market’s search for direction may continue for a while longer.
