BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF Sees Its Biggest Inflow in a Year: Why Was $665 Million Not Enough?

BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, IBIT, saw its strongest day in more than a year on October 19, with net inflows exceeding $665 million. Yet Bitcoin remained in the $82,000–$83,000 range, raising the question of why the buying failed to push the price higher.

According to SoSoValue data cited by The Block, IBIT saw $665.16 million in net inflows on Monday. This was the fund’s highest daily net inflow since October 7, 2025.

Total net inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, meanwhile, came to $526.6 million. Outflows from Fidelity and Grayscale funds offset some of the money flowing into BlackRock’s fund. Launched in January 2024, IBIT is the largest spot Bitcoin ETF, with $66.37 billion in net assets, according to the report.

Why couldn’t Bitcoin break out of its range despite strong ETF inflows?

Zeus Research analyst Dominick John viewed the inflows as a sign that institutional demand remained resilient despite macroeconomic pressures. However, John said selling pressure was countering ETF purchases, making it difficult for the price to break through resistance.

Concerns about the possibility of interest rates rising again are also limiting appetite for risk assets. As a result, strong inflows into a single fund were not enough on their own to push Bitcoin out of its $82,000–$83,000 range.

Are investors waiting for Bitcoin to catch up with other assets?

Min Jung, a researcher at Presto Research, said the exact reason for the IBIT inflows was unknown. Jung’s possible explanation is that investors are positioning themselves in anticipation of a Bitcoin rebound, as the asset has yet to participate to the same extent in the rally among other risk assets.

According to Jung, Bitcoin’s narrow trading range may have made its current levels relatively attractive while other risk assets trade near all-time highs. The researcher believes macroeconomic uncertainty will need to ease and risk appetite will need to strengthen for a sustained move above this range.

Ethereum went in the opposite direction: U.S. spot Ether ETFs recorded $103.3 million in net outflows that same day, extending their outflow streak to four days.

BlackRock also filed for a new Bitcoin ETF aimed at providing downside protection on Monday. The product, called the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protect ETF, aims to provide a degree of protection while also limiting gains from an increase in the price.
