Google and Apple’s Job Postings Draw Attention: What Are They Preparing for Crypto?
Google Cloud’s job posting seeking stablecoin and tokenization experience, along with Apple’s position opened for payment strategy, points to the financial priorities of these tech giants. The scope of the two roles is not the same.
In the postings reported by CoinDesk, Google Cloud is focusing on developing infrastructure for financial assets represented on the blockchain. On the Apple side, consumer finance products within the Apple Pay ecosystem, partnerships, and payment strategy come to the fore. The postings demonstrate the expertise the companies are looking for; they do not constitute an announcement of a new crypto product.
Stablecoins and Tokenization are Directly Featured in Google’s Posting
Google Cloud is looking for an Industry Principal Architect to be based in Hong Kong. This individual is expected to work with financial institutions, exchanges, custodians, and blockchain protocol foundations in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the center of the role is the tokenization of real-world assets—that is, the digital representation of financial assets on the blockchain. Candidates are required to have experience in blockchain networks, smart contracts, stablecoin infrastructure, tokenized deposits, and custody technologies.
Transaction signing systems, blockchain nodes, and compliance requirements in different markets, including Hong Kong, are also within the scope of the role. Google expects the hire to advise executives and contribute to the Web3 product roadmap. The company’s goal is to become the preferred cloud provider for digital asset developers and institutional users.
The Focus at Apple is the Future of Payment Products
The Apple Pay Financial Products Strategy Lead, whom Apple wishes to station in Cupertino or New York, will work on Apple Card, Apple Cash, peer-to-peer payments, and other consumer finance products. The role involves evaluating new products, partnerships, and business models in wallet, payment, and commerce services.
In contrast to the explicit blockchain and stablecoin requirements in Google’s posting, the Apple job description cited in the source describes a broader payment strategy role. Therefore, it is not possible to read the two postings as an indication that both companies are preparing to launch a stablecoin.
The Tech Giants’ Interest in Finance is Not Limited to Job Postings
Google Cloud had expanded its partnership with CME Group in March 2025 to explore asset tokenization and blockchain payments. At that time, the initial integration and testing phase of the Google Cloud Universal Ledger infrastructure was also announced. This is an older development separate from the new job posting.
The CoinDesk report also recalls Samsung’s plan to add stablecoin features to Galaxy phones via Samsung Wallet. Google’s infrastructure-focused search, Apple’s payment strategy position, and Samsung’s plan for consumer products are steps at different stages; they do not all signify new crypto services that have been launched.
