HIVE Digital Technologies’ Radical Move: Shifting Focus to the Sector Boosting Hourly Earnings 10x

HIVE Digital Technologies has decided to radically change its revenue model as the gap in hourly earnings between Bitcoin (BTC) mining and artificial intelligence (AI) compute power reached 10x.

HIVE Digital Technologies, one of the crypto world’s largest publicly traded mining giants, has launched a move that pushes the sector’s traditional boundaries. The company’s Executive Chairman, Frank Holmes, shared critical data regarding the future of mining operations at a panel held on July 29. Holmes announced that the company is accelerating expansion plans for artificial intelligence (AI)-focused computing tasks, aiming to increase the revenue share from this sector from 10% to over 50% within this year.

AI Hardware Outpaces Mining Devices

Data shared by Holmes shows that ASIC devices, specifically manufactured for Bitcoin mining and focused solely on this process, offer earnings of only between $0.12 and $0.14 per hour. On the other hand, advanced H100 GPU (graphics processing unit) hardware used in AI operations overshadows mining machines by generating approximately $2 in hourly revenue. It is even noted that older generation GPUs provide earnings of around $1.40 per hour, proving that AI is a field 10 times more profitable than mining.

This massive earnings gap clearly demonstrates the structural transformation and hardware-driven strategic shift mining companies are undergoing to survive. HIVE aims to strengthen its financial structure by balancing low-yield mining processes, despite their high-cost energy consumption, with high-value-added AI computing services. The company’s strategic pivot highlights that hardware power in the cryptocurrency sector now plays a critical role not just for blockchain, but for the global technological revolution.
