A proposal at Starknet to research the option of moving to an independent, quantum-resistant network separate from Ethereum was approved with the support of approximately 94% of the voting power cast.
According to Wu Blockchain, Starknet (STRK) token holders approved research into the possibility of the network transitioning from its current Ethereum Layer 2 structure to an independent Layer 1. The support rate reflects voting power, not the number of voters.
An independent network option instead of operating on Ethereum
The research will focus on Starknet, which currently operates as a second layer on Ethereum, functioning as its own main blockchain. The design under consideration aims to withstand threats that could arise from quantum computers.
The vote authorizes only preliminary research. A separate governance approval will be required later for the transition to an independent network to be implemented.
First draft expected in November
StarkWare plans to publish a draft technical document on the research in November. This will allow the community to evaluate the independent network option based on a more concrete design. The November timeline is a target for releasing the technical draft, not a date for the network’s transition.
