According to a Reuters report, the CFTC is again investigating whether Polymarket complied with rules on access by U.S. users, even though similar investigations last year were closed without charges.
A Reuters report cited by Wu Blockchain, based on two sources familiar with the matter, says the investigation centers on the 2022 settlement. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is assessing whether Polymarket took sufficient measures to prevent U.S. users from accessing its offshore platform.
User locations and advertising under scrutiny
The investigation covers controls used to determine users’ locations, as well as the platform’s advertising activities in the U.S. The main issue under investigation is whether these practices comply with the obligations in the 2022 settlement.
The scope is not limited to the offshore platform. The CFTC is also reportedly examining customer onboarding processes and measures to protect users on Polymarket’s U.S. platform.
Previous investigations closed without charges
The CFTC and the U.S. Department of Justice closed similar investigations into Polymarket in 2025 without bringing charges. The new report indicates that the platform’s practices involving U.S. users are once again subject to regulatory scrutiny.
Polymarket and the CFTC declined to comment. The reported process is at the investigation stage; the report does not announce a confirmed violation or a new penalty.
