Reserve Update from Strategy, the World’s Largest Bitcoin Holder: New Critical Threshold for 843,000 BTC

Strategy, the world’s largest institutional Bitcoin holder, has completely overhauled its financial metrics to manage the effects of the bear market and provide a more transparent picture to its shareholders.

Led by Michael Saylor, Strategy made a strategic move to change how it evaluates its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings as volatility in the crypto markets continues. The company established a new financial framework focusing on net values—where debts and liabilities are deducted—instead of gross figures. This step aims to allow investors to see the company’s true financial health more clearly, especially under bear market conditions.

Examining the company’s current reserves, it is seen that it holds a massive gross asset value of $55.6 billion with a total of 843,775 BTC. However, with the new “Net Reserve” calculation, this figure has been updated to $36.6 billion. In this calculation, a $3.2 billion cash reserve is added to gross assets; then, $6.8 billion in convertible debt and $15.5 billion in preferred stock liabilities are deducted. Thus, the net value remaining for common shareholders is solidified.

Critical Threshold for Strategy: BTC Floor ARR

One of the most striking parts of the new system, the BTC Floor ARR rate, has been set at 3.22%. This rate means that as long as the Bitcoin price increases above this level on an annual basis, the company can cover all interest and dividend payments indefinitely using only BTC gains. Additionally, by pegging the mNAV (Net Asset Value Multiplier) formula to the 1.0x level, it will now be easier to track whether new share issuances are truly beneficial for existing investors.

Under current market conditions, while the Bitcoin price hovers around the $65,000 level—remaining 50% below its peak—MSTR shares are also down 84% from their top in November 2024. The company’s preferred stock, STRC, is trading around $85, struggling to reach its par value of $100. Michael Saylor and his team aim to build a more resilient financial architecture against market uncertainty with these new metrics.
