Silence Broken After 8 Years: 4 Giant Ethereum Whales Make Their First Move
Four giant Ethereum wallets that had been dormant for eight years have finally broken their silence and begun selling to realize millions of dollars in profit.
The moves of large investors, known as “whales” in the cryptocurrency world, always spark great curiosity in the market. Recent on-chain data shows that four Ethereum (ETH) wallets, dormant for exactly eight years, have become active and converted a significant amount of assets into cash. These addresses, which had not made any transactions since 2018, moved their holdings to exchanges amidst the recent market fluctuations.
According to data shared by the on-chain analysis platform Lookonchain, these four addresses sold a total of 33,623 Ethereum (ETH) within a period of approximately four hours. The sales were executed at a level of about $1,560 per unit, generating a total revenue of $52.5 million. These wallets had acquired the assets in question in 2018 at a cost of $830 per unit. This indicates that the investors realized a net profit of approximately $27.4 million.
Ethereum Whales Missed Out on Massive Profit Opportunities
The most striking point of this sale was the opportunities the investors missed in the past. These wallets did not sell during the bull markets of 2021 and 2025, when the Ethereum price reached record levels. Particularly during periods when the price peaked at $4,946, the total unrealized profit of these wallets had exceeded $150 million. However, the investors chose to wait during these periods of massive gains, leaving a large portion of their potential profits on the table.
This move, occurring during a market downtrend, proves that even “old-school” investors who have been dormant for a long time are affected by the current uncertainty. Similarly, in recent months, it has been observed that some Ethereum (ETH) wallets, dormant for ten years, have made multi-million dollar transfers. This situation is considered a significant signal for investors taking open positions in the market.
