Spot Volume Surges 3-4x as Bitcoin Nears $80,000: Is Selling Pressure on the Horizon?

As Bitcoin approaches $80,000, spot trading volume has quadrupled, altcoin deposits have tripled, and whale inflows have exceeded 2,000 BTC per hour.

During Bitcoin’s rise, trading activity in the spot market has also expanded significantly. CryptoQuant reported in a post dated September 4 that spot trading volume increased markedly, with Binance taking the largest share of this volume.

The surge in spot volume, which indicates direct buying and selling, reveals that more trading participation entered the market during the rally. According to the data, volume rose to 3-4 times previous levels, while transactions related to depositing altcoins into exchanges also tripled. This movement served as a supportive sign showing that activity was not limited to Bitcoin alone.

Large Bitcoin Inflows Raise Questions About Supply Pressure

During the same period, Bitcoin inflows associated with large investors also accelerated. While these transfers to exchanges repeatedly exceeded 2,000 BTC per hour, the average deposit size rose above 50 BTC.

Sending Bitcoin to an exchange does not necessarily mean a sale has occurred; assets can also be moved for sales preparation, trading, or other purposes. Therefore, while the data shows broader spot and altcoin participation, it also leaves open the question regarding the magnitude of supply that could enter the market.
