Surprise Sale from Bitcoin Whale Strategy: The Destination of $108.6 Million Revealed

Known for its massive Bitcoin portfolio, Strategy announced the sale of 1,690 Bitcoins (BTC) worth $108.6 million to fund a share buyback.

One of the largest institutional investors in the cryptocurrency world, Strategy, broke from its usual pattern by liquidating a portion of its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings. Through this operation conducted between August 3 and August 9, the company generated $108.6 million in revenue by selling a total of 1,690 BTC. This massive influx of funds was entirely utilized to buy back the company’s own STRC shares from the market.

Strategy’s Bitcoin Sale and Financial Moves

According to data shared by the company, these sales were executed at an average price level of $64,262. This move is considered a rare step for Strategy, which is known for its consistent accumulation. Currently, the company still holds 840,447 BTC, with the total cost of this massive portfolio standing at $63.36 billion. When considering all the company’s purchases, the average cost per Bitcoin is calculated at $75,385.

Not limiting its financial strategy solely to crypto assets, the company also sold 6.59 million MSTR shares for $653.1 million during the same period. Out of the proceeds from this sale, $650 million was allocated to strengthen the company’s cash reserves. Consequently, Strategy’s total USD reserves reached $4.65 billion. These tactical moves are interpreted not as the company abandoning its Bitcoin strategy, but rather as optimizing its balance sheet according to market conditions.
