U.S. Crypto Bill Faces Critical Vote on Sept. 15: Can It Advance with 6 Democratic Votes?

The U.S. Senate will hold a critical procedural vote on Sept. 15 for the Clarity Act, which will define crypto regulation.

The Clarity Act, which aims to create a regulatory framework for crypto assets in the U.S., is preparing for its first major milestone in the Senate. According to Wu Blockchain, citing Forbes, the “motion to proceed” vote that would allow the bill to advance will take place on Sept. 15.

This vote does not mean the bill has become law. It will determine whether the Senate will begin the process of deliberating the Clarity Act. Although 114 amendments proposed by Democratic senators have been included in the latest version of the bill, the issue of political support persists.

At least 6 Democratic votes needed for the Clarity Act

According to information reported by Politico, no Democratic senators have publicly supported the bill so far. For the Clarity Act to pass the procedural vote, the support of at least 6 Democratic senators is required.

White House Digital Assets Advisory Council Executive Director Patrick Witt and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that both parties should support the vote. Officials warned that if the vote fails, U.S. leadership in the digital assets space could weaken, and the legislative window for the bill to return to the agenda may become uncertain.

Witt said that a failed procedural vote would not provide either proponents or opponents of the bill with the outcome they desire. Whether the Clarity Act advances on the Senate agenda during the Sept. 15 vote will be decisive for the bill’s future.
